  • How do I clean a refrigerator? How often should I do it?
Unplug your fridge, empty it and throw away expired items. Most food items can last only about an hour outside the fridge, so you may want to temporarily keep your perishable foods in a cooler.

Remove the shelves, drawers and other removable components, and wash them in warm, soapy water. Put these aside to dry while you clean the inside of your refrigerator with a multi-purpose cleaner. Make sure to wipe down the walls, shelves, shelf seams and rubber door seal. You may use an old toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach crevices.

After that’s done, you may put the shelves and drawers back into their frames. You can also put your food items back in the fridge. Wipe away any condensation from jars and bottles before you place them on the shelves. Then plug your fridge back in and clean the exterior with a damp cloth.

It is good to give your fridge a scrub down every now and then. Not only will regular cleaning and maintenance keep your refrigerator smelling fresh and clean, it will also help prevent breakdowns or failures, thus saving you time and cost in the long run.
  • What is the ideal temperature for a refrigerator?
To keep food fresh, the ideal refrigerator temperature control for your fridge is 0°C to 4°C and -18°C to -20°C for the freezer. This may vary depending on the types of food in your fridge and where they are stored.

For instance, ready-to-eat food should be kept at the top and middle shelves. Keep raw meat, poultry and fish at the bottom of your fridge and in sealed containers to prevent contamination. Fruits and vegetables should be placed in the salad drawer. Most of our refrigerators come with 360 AirCool to ensure even cooling of food items, no matter where they are stored in your fridge.

While you’re away, Electrolux has you covered with the Holiday mode, Eco mode and FrostFree cooling system. With these functions, you will have peace of mind knowing that your refrigerator is keeping your food safe while staying energy efficient.
  • How do I choose the right refrigerator size?
There are different refrigerator sizes to choose from and picking the right one depends on your household needs and the space you have. First, determine how much space you will need. For instance, a family of four typically requires 700 litres of storage space. Couples can start with 500 litres of storage space.

Electrolux has a range of side-by-side (two-door) fridges and French (three-door) fridges to help you maximise your storage space and the space you have in your refrigerator. For instance, our three-door fridges like the Electrolux EHE5220AA feature a side-by-side top and bottom freezer, so you can be on eye level with your refrigerator shelves and have a full-width bottom freezer. A side-by-side (two-door) fridge typically offers a bigger freezer space and more segmented storage unit for a cheaper price. You should also pay attention to the dimensions of a refrigerator to ensure that it will fit in your kitchen.

Other factors to consider when deciding on a refrigerator size are whether you usually host meals at home or eat out, and require a bigger fridge space or freezer space.
  • How do I fix a leaking refrigerator?
Clogged drains are usually the reason for refrigerators leaking water. A quick way to fix a leaking refrigerator is to find the clog in the drain and remove it. Before doing that, you should unplug the fridge and remove all frozen foods, the bottom freezer components and access panel located at the back of the bottom freezer. Then remove the debris from the drain and pour water on it to melt the ice. Use a drain snake to remove the clog and flush it out with hot water. Observe how the water flows – if it flows freely into the drain pan, the clog has been successfully removed; if it doesn’t flow well, it’s best to call for professional help.
  • Why is my freezer cold but refrigerator warm?
There are a number of reasons why your refrigerator is not cooling but freezer is fine. For instance, overpacking the fridge could block the airflow to the refrigerator. You can solve this problem by simply reorganising your fridge.

There is also the possibility of a loose wire connection, which a technician can easily fix. A faulty evaporator fan motor could also be the reason. This happens when the motor overheats shortly after it starts operating and thus stops circulating the air from the freezer to the refrigerator.

It could also be that the condenser fan has stopped working because of a failure in the defrost system. This may have led to a frost build-up that’s preventing the fan from turning and blocking the airflow. Another possible cause – which also requires professional help – is that the control board has malfunctioned.
  • How can I keep my refrigerator or freezer smelling fresh?
Freshness in your refrigerator or freezer can be affected by how food is stored. Some foods have a strong odour, so be sure to cover them tightly.

After you’ve checked how your food is stored, try cleaning the interior of your freezer with a sponge, warm water, and baking soda.
  • Why does the outside of my freezer feel warm?

It is normal for the outside freezer walls to be warmer than room temperature. This happens when the compressor is working to transfer heat from inside the freezer.

  • What does it mean if my refrigerator’s digital temperature display is flashing?
If the temperature display is flashing, it means that the refrigerator’s electronic control system has detected a performance issue. Contact us at Electrolux customer service on 6727 3699 or contact us and we will be glad to assist you with information about what the display means and what steps to take.
